Anyone fancy a Friday night hike?
Tenacity is one of our core values here at ActionPoint, and this past weekend we saw it in action (pardon the pun), as our CEO David Jeffreys and Software Engineer Christian Jones took on the daunting Art O’Neill Challenge.
What is the Art O’Neill Challenge I hear you ask? The annual event brings together ultra-runners and hikers that gather in the grounds of Dublin Castle at midnight to start the monster race that finishes in the Wicklow Mountains. From here, runners begin to retrace the steps of Art O’Neill’s and Red Hugh McDonnell’s infamous escape route in 1592. Stretching 53km in total, the journey starts with 30km of road before an even greater challenge awaits. Ultra-runners must then self-navigate through 23km of open hillside… in the middle of the night. The perfect Friday night, eh?
So on Saturday morning, while the rest of us awoke from our slumber, both Dave and Christian were finishing their 9+ hour run from imagined captivity. As you’ll see from the pictures below, coffee and sandwiches never tasted as good!
A huge well done and congratulations to both David and Christian on what is an amazing achievement, and the culmination of many months of training.
