Background

2 weeks ago, The Senior Management Team here at ActionPoint executed company first by holding an offsite Strategic Workshop in Faithlegg House, County Waterford.

The Goal

The goal, was to generate new and interesting strategies that would examine new business lines, an organisational culture responsive to a growing team and to highlight and mitigate against future market risks. All of the areas above were to be encapsulated in a refined company mission and vision.

Crucial to the success of this process as getting input from the team. The relationship between a company and its staff is symbiotic. As a company, our staff work for us for more than a job, they work to personally grow their skillset and expand their horizon. On the other side of this relationship, a company can not create and supply its product or service offering without the input of employees. With that philosophy in mind, we knew that any future strategy or direction that ActionPoint was headed needed to be informed by out team.

The Process

When picking a venue, we decided we would need somewhere remote to clear our heads and focus on the challenge at hand, a golf course was an obvious carrot to encourage lads to make the cut.
With this criteria in mind, Faithlegg House, located just outside Waterford city was the obvious choice fro our Strategic offsite workshop.

Day 1

We arrived on Tuesday morning last and after some preamble over coffee, got straight down to work. Co-Founders David Jeffreys and John Savage gave some background on the company and context on where we were headed before the rest of our Leadership laid down the goals for the next 30 hours or so.

When the talking was over, we broke into groups of 5 and got to work on the challenges at hand including developing new business lines, improving customer experience, future risk mitigation and maintaining an “Awesome” culture for our next 80 team members.

The group sessions were well structured meaning that ideas generated had a strong business argument. The teams worked and aftercare a long afternoon presented the results to their colleagues.
On the evening of Day 1, the team enjoyed a delicious meal as High O’Donnell shared tales of an adventurous career in the Oil and Gas industry.

Day 2

On Day 2, we kicked off early and got to work on tackling our Functional Support Strategy. Groups tackled Mission and Vision, Culture and Risk Management before our final set of presentation closing remarks form the Leadership team.

The Result

We leave FaithLegg House with tonnes of new ideas and a resurgence of energy. We will now sit down and assess all the strong ideas we developed and lay the roadmap for Acton Point’s future.
