Following a challenging period on the field, Munster Rugby was on the ascendancy once more. As the teams experienced success on the field, this offered more commercial opportunities for the club. To take advantage of these opportunities, the club needed to change its approach to IT.
It’s fair to say that Munster Rugby is being transformed by data – both in the way the team performs on the field and the way the club runs its affairs behind the scenes. For example, through greater analysis of data in ticket sales, the club has revamped its ticketing strategy. By making it more financially viable for families to come to matches, the number of children attending games has risen from 500 to up to 5,000 per game. In addition, it has boosted season ticket sales by 30% year on year.
To continue capitalising on these opportunities, Munster needed to provide its largely mobile workforce with access to data from multiple locations. As Head of Commercial and Marketing Enda Lynch outlined, “Only a small number of staff work from fixed desktops, and these people need reliable, well-designed client devices to stay on top of their workloads.” When the existing client devices came towards then of their lifecycles, Munster Rugby needed to ensure they could continue to take advantage of the sporting and commercial success the club was experiencing.
Having developed a trusted relationship over many years, Munster Rugby turned to local Dell EMC partner ActionPoint to transform its workplace. To answer the club’s need for reliable, well-designed client devices, the ActionPoint SMB team proposed a mix of Dell Latitude laptops and Dell OptiPlex desktops.
Lynch emphasised the need for always-on access to data from multiple locations. He said, “Like many people, I’m constantly on the move: attending meetings, giving presentations to companies. To be productive, the performance of my laptop is crucial.” Working with the ActionPoint SMB team, Munster Rugby rolled out the Dell Latitude 3000 series and 5000 series models for its mobile workforce. For the small number of desktop users, the club deployed Dell OptiPlex 3010 and 3020 models. These offerings will provide personnel with access to a range of windows-based applications as well as connectivity to cloud-based Microsoft Office 365.
Reliable Performance All Season Long
Today, workplace transformation at Munster Rugby is being supported by the Dell client devices. Lynch, who carries a Dell Latitude E3560 laptop with him throughout the day, provides a great insight into the way technology is helping shape the club’s future. “It’s not unusual if I have to make five presentations in different venues in a single day. I know I have the tools I need if I’m carrying my Dell Latitude laptop. I open it up and in less than 30 seconds, I’m ready for business.”
The mainly mobile workforce has experienced increased connectivity and efficiency, with increased speed, power and performance supporting the back-office ticketing systems. “Everyone has noticed the improvement in performance”, said Lynch. “You turn on your machine and it connects to the network in moments.” Better still, maintenance work such as software patching is done by ActionPoint staff remotely. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a member of the maintenance team. My machine is always up-to-date.”
