Simon Goble, I.T. Manager for Europe, Shoes For Crews
Having decided to close their data centre, along with looming GDPR deadlines, Shoes For Crews needed an alternative solution. Up until recently, Shoes For Crews did have a disaster recovery plan in place. But, as IT manager for Europe, Simon Grole described, it was becoming increasingly less efficient. “Every night we had to replicate multiple servers to the US.” The issue was compounded in the past year. The company decided to move its headquarters away from Florida and, with that, close down its data centre. This decision led them to consider moving to the Azure cloud which had a knock-on effect on their European base. With GDPR deadlines fast approaching, Shoes For Crews needed to figure out how to replicate their servers within Europe.
Shoes For Crews spoke with several suppliers regarding a DR solution. However, according to Simon, there were a “number of key reasons” why they chose DRaaS from ActionPoint:
– “Reassuring to know everything was managed and monitored.
– Daily reporting. – Solution in line with GDPR requirements.
– Partnership with Azure was very important to us.
– Keen to work with a reliable provider that was local and offered a great value package.”
Our team met with Simon on site on a number of occasions. In the first meeting, we ran through a DR workshop to outline their options. Then, having been selected to implement the solution, we met again to go through a full discovery of the organisation’s needs. After that, the onboarding process began and, as Simon outlined, it was straight forward for both sides.
“The whole onboarding process didn’t take long and caused minimum disruption to Shoes For Crews business. All told, it was quite a painless process. Obviously, the solution has its own complexities but in the grand scheme of things, it is a very simple solution.”
Disaster recovery, by its very nature, is an always-on and continuous process. The DRaaS solution by ActionPoint is a non-touch, end-to-end solution. This means that, since implementation, Simon’s day to day routine remains the same. But, as Simon described, what’s most important to them is knowing they are covered if anything goes wrong.
Shoes For Crews need for a reliable DR solution was accelerated due to GDPR deadlines. But every company needs a disaster recovery plan so that they can respond in times of disaster. With DRaaS from ActionPoint, Shoes For Crews can rest easy- comfortable in the knowledge that they are covered should the worst happen.
